Don’t forget to breath

Energy; dogs are our energetic mirrors

Dogs are sensitive and hyper aware to our energy and the energy out in the world. And they are skilled at reflecting that energy.  What do you see your dog reflecting?

I teach people how to be calm. This is based mostly in two things; breathing and acting slowly.

I have been reminding people to breathe during our sessions. I love taking a moment for a few deep breaths while working with dogs. It brings me back to the mindset of a calm confident leader. It reminds me of clear simple communication and how valuable it is to calm our minds before we act.  All relationships in our life benefit, including our relationship with our dogs. Breathe.

We act slowly to channel more calm energy. When I teach people to walk with their dogs, usually the inclination is to speed up, perhaps to keep up with their dog. I ask everybody to slooooww down and guess what, your dog will slow down too. There is a whole lot more to walking with your dog by your side, but energetically, this is it. Breathe and take it slow!

There are moments where we may need to pick up our energy to rouse our dogs and get them going. Adjust your energy to what your dog may need in that moment. It’s okay to get excited, play and have fun with our dogs, but when it comes to training and asking them to do things, bring it back, breath, take it slow, and be chill.

Thanks for reading and don’t hesitate to get in touch with any questions!
